This show never fails to brighten up my day. I'm so happy that there are now fantabulous Lady-centric shows to watch. It may be fluffy, but some fantastic fluffy positivity combined with a few dashes of golden truths and a solid foundation of female solidarity makes for a very good thing.
To be honest, I'm finding Zooey rather unbearable lately. As you know, she was a favourite of mine for a long time...I was definitely disappointed to see her go from films to primetime sitcom (LE SNOB I know!!! sorry). It just seems like a step down... Also, I watched the first episode and found it rather blah (sorry). Maybe I will give it another chance.
ReplyDeleteFor me, maybe Zooey was better taken in smaller doses, and not so much as an omnipresent pop culture presence. Maybe the overexposure is not all her fault, but I'm not really a fan of the persona she is currently cultivating. Zooey seems to me to be an intelligent, interesting person, and I don't think she needs to try so hard. I find the "look-at-me, I'm SO QUIRKY" act very contrived and grating. It reminds me of Kirsten Dunst's character in Elizabethtown (worst movie of all time).
I guess she was always like that, but I feel like she's really laying it on thick these days... Case in point: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNifin-ID7k&feature=player_embedded#!
It seems like she is playing her character here, but she introduces herself as Zooey. I don't understand...is Jess supposed to be stupid? A little slow? Clueless? Gahhh.
Sorry. That was my rant. I still like She & Him, and Zooey's film work...
